Job Description

Pierson Computing Connection, Inc., is a woman-owned technology services company headquartered in Mechanicsburg, PA. We specialize in ProAVL design and installation, AVL installation, configuration services, hardware sales, and technology deployment for our customers located throughout the East Coast. We are seeking an Accounting Manager with experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses. The ideal candidate is comfortable wearing multiple hats and improving processes as the business grows. This position is eligible to occasionally work remotely after the first 30 days with manager's approval. Salary $75,000-$95,000 per year. Job Summary The Accounting Manager is a proactive and hands-on position responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and payroll operations within the organization. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintains compliance with relevant laws and regulations, supervises accounting staff, and manages financial reporting and analysis. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Lead day-to-day finance operations of budgeting, financial reporting, and payroll. Administer monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. Prepare, analyze, and present timely and accurate financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, and working capital. Oversee and manage the full-cycle payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payments to all employees and tax organizations, while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Work in close consultation with the HR department to determine payroll inputs and changes. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and resolve issues or concerns. Supervise payroll and accounting staff, including participation in the hiring process, training, approving timesheets and requests for time-off, performance reviews, and day-to-day management of workload and priorities. Administer and maintain the HRIS payroll function and process. Work closely with resources across the organization to ensure financial health by monitoring cross-functional reports, analyzing trends, and identifying/mitigating potential risk management issues that may impact overall financial and operations performance. Lead business-wide budget development, company financial performance assessment, and forecasting. Oversee the review and post payroll-related journal entries and accruals to the general ledger, ensuring consistency with the organization's accounting structure and standards. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, including maintenance of the chart of accounts, reconciliation of financial records, expense reimbursements, check requests, and refunds, and issue checks for payment according to established procedures and approval processes. Prepare, analyze, and present payroll and commission reports, and other management reports as required. Translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance managers. Adhere to all reporting deadlines. Perform complex analyses in relation to financial reporting and operational activities; use appropriate analytical techniques and statistical information-gathering processes to obtain required information. Manage all bank reconciliations, employee credit card activity and reporting, bank account activity for subsidiary companies, and ensure correct journal entries. Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws, labor laws, and reporting requirements; prepare and file payroll tax returns and other statutory reports. Retrieve and reconcile all tax reports on a quarterly basis. Conduct internal audits of payroll and accounting processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and readiness for external audits. Complete external audit requests, including the annual Workers' Compensation audit, financial statements, and for the 401(k). Serve as the backup for all accounting and payroll functions. Stay current with changes in payroll and accounting regulations, and recommend or implement process improvements as needed. Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and workflows. Other duties as assigned. Competencies Intermediate-level competency with general computer and Microsoft systems and applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong knowledge of payroll systems, prevailing wage requirements, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and relevant laws/regulations. Proficiency with payroll and ERP or accounting software. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across departments and with external agencies. Speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, and listens and seeks clarification. Able to respond to inquiries or complaints in a positive, professional manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Able to effectively present information and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in a clear and concise manner, and respond to questions from staff and customers in a manner understandable to someone without similar accounting knowledge. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with and analyze large amounts of data. Able to plan and complete assignments within deadlines. Able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has supervisory responsibilities for one or more direct reports. Required Education and Experience The following requirements are job-related and consistent with business necessity. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or a combination of education and experience. Five or more years of experience in the Essential Functions and Competencies in small to mid-sized businesses. Class C (passenger vehicle) driver's license with a clean driving record. Prior experience working with payrolls in a prevailing-wage environment. Preferred Education and Experience The following requirements are job-related and consistent with business necessity. Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Any experience in an accounting position in the construction industry. Any experience working with NetSuite and/or QuickBooks. Any experience working with K-12 clients. Additional Eligibility Requirements Upon offer of employment, selected candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test, credit check and Federal Criminal History, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record, Motor Vehicle Record, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification background checks at Pierson's expense. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a salaried, overtime-exempt position. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an unpaid one-hour lunch. The Accounting Manager is expected to work as many hours as needed. Travel Less than 10%. Travel is primarily local during the business day, if needed, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Travel in a personal vehicle will be reimbursed at the IRS mileage rate if a company vehicle is not available. Reports To This position reports to the President and CEO.
