We are seeking an Actuarial Director to join our Specialty Lines Team, in Worcester, MA, or Windsor, CT offices or remote work arrangement.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Specialty Actuarial team is seeking an Actuarial Director to provide actuarial leadership for the Professional Liability and Healthcare portfolio within the Professional & Executive Lines division. This role supports pricing strategy, portfolio management, planning, and product initiatives for a profitable $335 million book comprising Professional Liability (Accountants, Architects & Engineers, Lawyers, and Miscellaneous Professionals) and Healthcare (Allied Healthcare and Eldercare). The position reports to the AVP & Actuary of Professional and Executive Lines & Surety and serves as a key actuarial partner to underwriting and business leadership. This role works closely with Presidents, Chief Underwriting Officers, and cross-functional stakeholders to inform decision-making, drive pricing sophistication, and support profitable growth. Depending on qualifications and experience, the role may be filled at the Actuarial Manager or Actuarial Director level. At both levels, the position is expected to provide strong technical leadership, analytical insight, and business partnership. The position requires close collaboration across the Specialty actuarial team and the broader organization, including Corporate Underwriting, Claims, Enterprise Product, Data & Analytics, and Finance. The role balances hands-on actuarial work with leadership, influence, and talent development. This is a full-time, exempt role.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead and continuously advance pricing segmentation, sophistication, and underwriting guidance aligned with business strategy Own segmented profitability reviews and ongoing portfolio monitoring to inform actions and manage performance Lead actuarial planning, forecasting, and IBNR analyses in partnership with Finance and Reserving Influence strategic investments in data, analytics, and technology to improve insight, efficiency, and decision-making Monitor performance trends and clearly communicate insights and recommendations to senior and executive leadership Partner with underwriting and business leadership to shape product strategy, growth initiatives, and market actions Anticipate and manage emerging issues, balancing risk, profitability, and growth Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for actuarial staff Influence outcomes across the organization through strong relationships, credibility, and sound actuarial judgment Additional Information Help for Additional Information. WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY
Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field 7+ years of actuarial experience across multiple lines and disciplines (pricing, reserving, analytics) Prior people leadership experience preferred ACAS required; FCAS preferred Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (i.e Lawful Permanent Residence or US Citizen) Advanced communication skills, including the ability to translate analysis into clear business insights Advanced data analysis, modeling, and portfolio management capabilities Intermediate programming or automation experience Strong actuarial judgment and understanding of modeling techniques, assumptions, and limitations Ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams Ability to influence decisions and partner effectively across functions Key Leadership Competencies Strategic Thinking Business & Enterprise Acumen Talent & Change Leadership Results Orientation Influence & Relationship Building
