AVP, UNDERWRITING TRAINER
Job Summary The AVP, Underwriting Trainer is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing training programs for our offshore underwriting team. This role will ensure compliance with lending regulations, improve underwriting accuracy, and enhance team performance through effective coaching and development. The ideal candidate has a strong background in mortgage underwriting, regulatory guidelines, and leadership in training or staff development.
Job Duties:
Develop, implement, and maintain training programs for offshore mortgage underwriters at all experience levels. Ensure training materials align with current lending regulations, investor guidelines, and company policies. Monitor underwriting quality, identify areas for improvement, and create targeted learning plans. Partner with leadership to establish performance benchmarks and training effectiveness metrics. Provide coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support to underwriters and support staff. Maintain production goals and standards in accordance with established KPIs and production metrics. Supports the organization's goals and values, gives, and welcomes feedback and contributes to building a positive team spirit. Stays updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to mortgage underwriting.

Supervisory Responsibilities Facilitate training of two offshore (FSI & Flatworld) underwriting teams. (10 team members) Review of work product, i.e. review of loan files, and provide feedback as needed. Conduct regular performance evaluations and create development plans for direct reports. Collaborate with management to make recommendations on staffing, promotions, and disciplinary actions as needed.

This role is fully remote and performed from the employee's home or another approved off-site location. The company provides essential equipment such as computer, headset and webcam. A reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace are expected.
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, with strong knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines. In-depth knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory compliance. Strong instructional design and training delivery skills (in-person and virtual). Proven ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and investor regulations. Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills. Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
DE (Direct Endorsement) and/or SAR (Staff Appraisal Reviewer) certifications. 2+ years of supervisory or management experience in mortgage underwriting or training. Proven track record of improving underwriting quality and compliance through training initiatives. Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional training initiatives.
