Client Accounting Manager -

North Haledon, NJ (Hybrid/Regional Travel)

We are seeking a highly motivated Client Accounting Manager to act as an outsourced accounting partner for a diverse portfolio of small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations. In this Client Advisory Services (CAS) role, you won't just be crunching numbers—you will be the principal financial point of contact for your clients. You will manage their day-to-day accounting operations, translate financial data into actionable insights, and present the financial health of these organizations directly to their Executive Teams and Boards of Directors. What You Will Do Client Advisory & Relationship Management Onboarding & Strategy:
Lead initial setup meetings with new clients to define the scope of work, reporting requirements, and expectations.
Executive Reporting:
Prepare monthly financial statements and fiscal projections (cash/accrual); effectively and confidently present findings to client leadership and Boards.
Strategic Guidance:
Provide proactive fiscal guidance to maintain client financial health and assist with regulatory filings (Form 990, 1099s).
Problem Solving:
Act as the primary point of contact, troubleshooting client issues promptly and professionally.
Process and manage payroll, AP, and AR, ensuring all accounts are kept current.
Reconciliation:
Reconcile bank and credit card statements, reviewing monthly financials and uncleared transactions.
Grant & Audit Oversight:
Monitor restricted grants for compliance, manage annual audits, and ensure all schedules are completed on time.
Team Leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and review the work of Bookkeepers and Junior Accountants. What You Bring to the
Table Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA is a strong plus, but not required).
Experience:
3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience. Previous experience managing multiple clients, working in a CAS environment, or supervising junior staff is highly preferred.
Niche Knowledge:
Strong grasp of GAAP, with specific knowledge of nonprofit accounting and restricted grant tracking.
Tech-Savvy:
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
Soft Skills:
A self-starter with superior communication skills, capable of prioritizing a diverse client base and feeling comfortable speaking to executive leadership.
Mobility:
