Job Description
The Director of Community Financial Services leads a municipal advisory and financial management practice serving rural communities and public entities, overseeing a portfolio representing more than $7 million in revenue. The role provides strategic leadership and technical expertise in areas such as audit readiness, budgeting, financial planning, internal controls, and outsourced finance support to strengthen community fiscal sustainability and compliance. Additionally, the Director guides project teams and supports the growth and scalability of the organization's financial services practice. This is work from home role; however, candidates must reside in one of the follow states: AL, AR, LA, OK, MS, TN or TX.
Must be authorized to work in the USA. Summary of Essential Job Duties Manage a $1M portfolio of fee-for-service contracts, ensuring high-quality client service, compliance, client satisfaction, and financial performance.
Support growth of the financial services practice through business development, client engagement, proposal development, pricing, and service expansion.
Provide technical financial assistance including audit preparation, financial statement support, general ledger review, reconciliations, and corrective action planning.
Advise clients on grant compliance, financial management best practices, internal controls, accounting system improvements, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Provide functional leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver financial advisory services, support strategic initiatives, and advance organizational goals.

Requirements EducationBachelor's degree in accounting is required and a minimum seven (7) years progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience and at least three (3) years audit experience with a public accounting firm is required. This position will require about 20% - 30% travel. CPA preferredCertified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or related governmental finance credential desirableExperience in governmental, municipal, utility, or nonprofit fund accounting preferredKnowledge of GASB standards, audit requirements, internal controls, and public-sector financial reporting preferredExperience supporting annual audits, single audits, corrective action plans, and audit remediationExperience in municipal budgeting, cash flow planning, rate or revenue analysis, or capital planning preferredExperience implementing or improving accounting systems and financial management processesExperience providing outsourced accounting, controller, CFO, or advisory services preferredAbility to assess fiscal risk, strengthen controls, and advise clients on sound financial practicesExperience managing client engagements or consulting portfolios, preferably fee-for-service contractsStrong client relationship management, proposal development, and business development skillsExcellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skillsMust maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, acceptable driving record, reliable personal vehicle and at least the state minimum personal liability auto insurance coverage.Must be authorized to work in the USA.
