Director, Portfolio Management Chicago, IL or Remote A fast-growing, fee-only RIA is adding a new fundamental equity strategy to its platform and is hiring a Director of Portfolio Management to lead it. Roughly $500M in assets is coming over to seed the strategy, with a clear runway to scale across the firm's $3B+ legacy client base. This is a real stock-picker's seat. The work is long-term and value-oriented: quality businesses at reasonable prices, disciplined risk management, customized client outcomes. If you've spent your career building individual stock portfolios and want to do it at scale inside a growing wealth platform, this is the seat. What you'll own Portfolio Management & Construction Build and manage customized equity portfolios aligned to client objectives Develop strategic asset allocation frameworks tailored to HNW client needs Maintain a long-term investment philosophy emphasizing quality businesses and valuation discipline Evaluate buy, sell, and hold decisions based on fundamental analysis Incorporate risk management strategies, including hedging and options where appropriate Lead portfolio positioning through market cycles, including down markets and recoveries Investment Research & Idea Generation Conduct in-depth fundamental research on individual securities Monitor earnings calls, company filings, and market-moving news Evaluate new information and adjust investment theses as needed Develop and present investment recommendations and model portfolios Maintain a high-conviction US Large Cap Equity buy list Performance & Risk Oversight Track and evaluate portfolio performance relative to benchmarks Manage downside risk in volatile markets Lead portfolio rebalancing strategies in response to market conditions Ensure alignment with client risk tolerances and investment objectives Client Engagement Serve as a client-facing investment expert Communicate portfolio positioning, market insights, and investment decisions clearly Support retention and growth of HNW client relationships Maintain responsiveness consistent with a high-touch service model Strategic Contribution Introduce differentiated investment capabilities, including hedging and active management approaches Support legacy client portfolio strategies requiring customization Partner with senior leadership to evolve investment processes and scalability What you bring CFA designation (required, no exceptions) 7+ years in portfolio management and fundamental equity investing Demonstrated experience building and managing individual stock portfolios Proven track record of performance across multiple market cycles Strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills Experience across multiple firms or investment environments preferred Role details
