Job Description

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) an interstate water resources management agency, is looking for an experienced, detail‑oriented Manager, Accounting to join our Administration & Finance team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys leading people, detailed financial tasks and reporting, and working in a mission‑driven public sector environment. The Manager supervises the Accounting Assistant and reports to the Director, Finance & Administration. About the Role As the Manager, Accounting, you will serve as a key advisor and operational partner to the Director, Finance & Administration. In a small accounting department, you will both perform and oversee core financial functions which include day-to-day transactions and reporting while also ensuring high-quality output across a complex, multi-program environment. You'll manage billing and cash flow, support agency leaders with fiscal guidance, and combine hands-on technical expertise with organizational leadership. What You'll Do This is a working manager role. You will personally perform many of the tasks below in addition to overseeing them. Lead and mentor the Accounting Assistant Perform and oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and month end close Support audits, annual financial statements, and internal controls Manage grant accounting, billing, and compliance Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cost allocations, and rate development Monitor cash flow and support treasury functions Help shape accounting policies, systems, and process improvements Collaborate across departments, including HR and program team Advise agency leaders on fiscal topics such as budgeting, cost allocation, and financial reporting What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required) At least 4 years of professional accounting experience (public sector preferred) Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and auditing Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite is a plus) Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Supervisory experience or the ability to mentor and guide staff CPA, CMA, or a master's degree is a bonus Why SRBC?
