Description Benefits Job Description What You Will Be Doing:
As a Revenue Appeals Supervisor, you will be a working supervisor responsible for supervising professional appeals staff, managing all aspects of the appeals function in the Department of Revenue Tax Division, while handling a caseload of the most complex tax cases including oil and gas production, income tax and non-oil and gas corporate income tax cases.Key responsibilities include:
Planning, coordinating, and managing the work of staff; reviewing, analyzing, and prioritizing appeal case assignments Exercising judgement and discretion in supervision of subordinates, including employing and disciplining; effectively recommend discharge when appropriate Evaluating and analyzing appeal issues for all tax types Conducting information conferences with taxpayers Discussing statutes and regulations with taxpayers and coworkers and communicating with the Department of Law Conducting tax and legal research Issuing written informal conference decisions Understanding the tax calculation for all tax types and calculating the tax based on the informal conference decision adjustments Posting the informal conference decision adjustments to the tax division computer system Briefing Department of Revenue management and Department of Law attorneys on issues including presenting analysis, formulating strategies, making recommendations, and drawing conclusions Representing the Department of Revenue in a team effort with the Department of Law for all tax types at all levels of appeal Special projects assigned by the director and deputy directorOur Mission, Values, and Culture:

Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in accounting, finance, or business that includes at least 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) in accounting, auditing or tax. Three semester hours (four quarter hours) of business law or statistical sampling may apply toward the required credit hours.AND EITHER
Three years of advanced professional level experience conducting informal conferences and issuing written informal conference decisions and working with formal appeals cases. The required experience is met by service as a Revenue Appeals Officer 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer. OR Six years of advanced professional level experience in auditing, public accounting and/or legal tax experience. The required experience includes work such as Oil and Gas Auditor 4, Corporate Income Tax Auditor 4, Tax Auditor 4.OR Substitution:
A juris doctor degree from an accredited law school. AND Three years of advanced professional level experience in auditing, public accounting and/or legal tax experience.
