Job Description:
One of our major oil and gas clients is seeking an Finance Business Partner to work on a 12 - month assignment in their facilities in Houston, TX.
Summary:
The Finance Business Partner is based in Houston and reports to the Finance Manager within the Financial Planning & Performance group. This role will support a Production Unit within the International Operations pillar and will also provide exposure across other regional areas. This role will act as a senior-level business partner responsible for building financial acumen within operations and delivering value through continuous improvement. This role requires a commercial mindset and the ability to work collaboratively to identify and progress opportunities that create and protect sustainable competitive advantage, including partner recovery. Finance Business Partners create outcomes by building relationships, turning data into insights, challenging the status quo, and framing and influencing decisions through problem solving. The role works directly with Operations, Subsurface, Surface Engineering, and Projects teams, support functions, and external finance relationships with Joint Venture partners.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate and instill an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development Demonstrate commitment to the company Charter and Code of Business Conduct Develop a deep understanding of the business and operational processes for each asset and associated projects Understand external benchmarks and how operations compare Provide valuable business partnering support for the company operated and non-operated assets Influence line managers as a trusted advisor, built on an ability to deliver tangible results, and focus teams on the best possible solutions Manage joint venture partner relationships and understand UOA with a focus on maximizing cost recovery Work with individuals and teams to frame and challenge asset development plans, commercial opportunities, and investment evaluations Engage with Operations, Surface Engineering, Subsurface, and Projects teams to support value delivery Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with management and teams across asset support functions Bring a strong commercial mindset, analytical expertise, and critical thinking, along with strong communication and leadership skills. Own joint venture relationships and work with commercial teams and the business to support value outcomes (e.g., value enhancement, cost recovery, alignment on planned activities, delivery of annual operating plans) Provide support for Joint Interest Billing statements and associated cash calls Prepare and manage asset master data and authority for expenditure Manage month-end processes including journal entries, financial and production reporting, and variance analysis Support and challenge budget and forecast preparation to ensure alignment with leadership and JV expectations Manage budgets and forecasts while maintaining capital discipline Actively participate in the Houston Incident Management Team (HIMT) to support response, recovery, and mitigation of business disruptions.
Requirements:
Degree in Finance and/or Accounting required. Chartered Accountancy or Certified Public Accountancy qualifications and/or Postgraduate management degree desirable 10+ years Finance experience, preferably within the upstream oil & gas sector. Strong interpersonal skills, stakeholder engagement and ability to work autonomously and deliver as needed Commercial mindset including understanding of license agreements, Joint Venture agreements, investment analysis, financing options, Key Value drivers, capital allocation, and business planning process. Ability to influence, collaborate, persuade and negotiate internally and externally Strong analytical skills and experience with SAP/S4 HANA, Power BI and AI tools preferred
