Job Description:
We are conducting a confidential search for a hands-on accounting leader to join a long-standing, multi-location company headquartered in San Antonio. This role is open because our current accounting leader is preparing for retirement. We are looking for someone steady, detail-oriented, and process-minded who can step into the role, learn the business, support the accounting team, and continue strengthening our accounting operations. The right candidate will enjoy being close to the numbers, leading month-end close, improving accuracy, strengthening processes, and helping operational leaders better understand their P&Ls. We are looking for a hands-on accounting leader who may currently be a Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or Accounting Manager ready for the next step About the Role The Accounting Manager/Director of Accounting will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, lead the close process, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strong internal controls. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can guide the team while also rolling up their sleeves when needed. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards Review balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies timely Prepare and review internal financial statements, management reports, and P&L reporting Explain financial results, variances, and trends clearly to leadership and operational teams Strengthen accounting workflows, procedures, documentation, and internal controls Support budgeting, forecasting, audits, tax filings, and compliance activities as needed Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other financial partners Lead, coach, and develop accounting team members Identify practical opportunities to improve systems, reporting, processes, and efficiency Partner with operations, HR, sales, and leadership to improve financial visibility and accountability Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 7+ years of progressive accounting experience 3+ years of accounting leadership or management experience Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls Experience leading month-end close and preparing financial statements Strong Excel skills and comfort working within accounting systems or ERP platforms Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-accounting leaders High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and a hands-on leadership style CPA preferred, but not required Compensation and Benefits This role offers an $80,000-$90,000 base salary, plus bonus opportunity, with year 1 on-target earnings of approximately $120,000. Benefits begin after 60 days and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer match, PTO, and paid holidays.
