Job Description

The Manager of Financial Reporting is responsible for the annual financial report prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines, as well as, the Medical Center statement consolidation with the University of Virginia. In addition, the Manager of Financial Reporting will serve as the key subject matter expert on technical accounting issues and analysis and interface with the external auditors on a regular basis. This role also supports the academic medical center's mission by ensuring compliance with regulatory and reporting standards, managing month-end and year-end close processes, managing audit processes, and maintaining strong internal controls. As this is a supervisory role, will be responsible for providing staff direction, training and performance management to ensure a high level of accuracy, timeliness and professional development.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy, and productivity while meeting critical deadlines
  • Must be able to utilize PeopleSoft, Anaplan, and other complex financial and information technology tools adopted by UVA Health for the preparation of all financial reports
  • Requires expertise as a functional user and strong working knowledge of the technical aspects of reporting and analytic tools, primarily PeopleSoft
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues, in order to align documentation to ensure business processes and policies are addressed
  • Ability to translate financial reporting needs according to GAAP and GASB standard reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate decisions, recommendations, and interpretations, primarily related to existing and new GASB standards
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, to include establishment of year-end planning calendar, analyzing year-end liability balances, providing testing samples and documentation to external auditors, and UVA Health consolidated footnote preparation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in large, decentralized work environments and structures
  • Enhanced skills/knowledge by maintaining an active continuing education program, primarily education and training related to new GASB standards
  • Prepare internal accounting policies to ensure effective and practical implementation Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or healthcare finance related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master's Degree in related field
  • Minimum of 2-5 years relevant work experience in financial reporting with increasing responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related financial reporting experience and statement issuance, preferably GASB, at an academic medical center is desirable The starting base rate for this role is $86,049.
60 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
