External Mortgage Relationship Manager
WRIGHT PATMAN CONGRESSIONAL FED CREDIT UNION 10461
White Granite Drive, Oakton, VA 22124 Full-time Full-time The External Mortgage Relationship Manager originates residential mortgage loans through the development of referral sources, relationship management, and client acquisition to drive new lending opportunities for the credit union. This is a fully self-sourced position. This role delivers a high-touch, concierge-level service experience, acting as a trusted advisor to members and referral partners throughout the entire mortgage process. The relationship manager is expected to build and maintain strong, long-term relationships while providing personalized guidance, proactive communication, and an elevated level of service that differentiates the credit union in the market. The role is responsible for meeting production goals, delivering exceptional service standards, and adhering to all regulatory and credit union requirements.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Originate residential first and second mortgage loans by developing relationships with external contacts, including real estate professionals, builders, and other referral partners, while delivering a high-touch, relationship-driven approach. The EMRM independently generates self sourced leads, builds and maintains a pipeline of prospective borrowers, and develops relationships with realtors and referral partners to drive new business. Provide guidance to members regarding loan products, rates, and CFCU mortgage programs. Collects and reviews loan applications and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with underwriting standards and all regulatory requirements, including TRID. Maintain consistent communication with borrowers throughout the loan process. Work with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to ensure timely loan completion. Maintain accurate records and pipeline management. Resolves member and internal inquiries promptly and accurately while performing assigned responsibilities with minimal errors in line with department standards. Achieves all assigned individual goals, including meeting or exceeding monthly loan production targets established by the credit union.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities:
This position is externally focused and primarily self-sourced, requiring a high degree of initiative, accountability, and independent business development. After the initial onboarding period, the Loan Officer is expected to meet established monthly production and performance standards, which are essential for continued employment. Qualifications 2-5 years of similar or related experience. Proven ability to generate leads and build a network of real estate and referral partners. Knowledge of mortgage lending products and guidelines, including TRID. Strong sales, networking, and relationship-building skills. Excellent communication and customer service abilities. Ability to manage a loan pipeline and meet production goals independently. Must maintain all required NMLS licensing and regulatory requirements. Skills and Competencies Business development and lead generation Realtor and referral relationship management Mortgage product knowledge Attention to detail and compliance Time management and pipeline organization Education A college degree preferred, or minimum of 5 years of related experience. Interpersonal Skills A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Other Skills Demonstrated organizational skills and strong written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills. Proficient with computer systems and mortgage-related software.
