Job Description:
PAS Financial Specialist - Healthcare Financial Counseling & Authorization We are seeking experienced PAS Financial Specialists to support a large healthcare organization through a major operational transition. This role focuses on providing financial coordination, insurance verification, authorization support, and financial counseling across the patient care continuum. This is an onsite role supporting a clinical environment and requires strong experience in hospital-based patient financial services, financial counseling, and payer/authorization workflows.
Responsibilities:
Perform pre-registration and registration processes for patients across multiple service lines. Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for all aspects of care. Identify and secure required authorizations and notifications based on treatment plans. Partner with clinical teams to understand patient care plans and associated financial impact. Provide financial counseling to patients and families, including explanation of benefits, coverage, and financial responsibility. Identify gaps in coverage and assist patients in securing alternative funding or financial assistance. Serve as the primary financial contact throughout the patient's care journey. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation in the EHR to ensure maximum reimbursement and minimize denials. Collaborate with payers, providers, and internal teams to resolve financial and authorization-related issues.
Requirements:
Associate's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare, finance, or related field. 3+ years of experience in hospital patient financial services, financial counseling, or patient access with financial focus. Strong understanding of insurance plans, payer guidelines, and authorization processes. Experience working with complex patient cases and financial navigation. Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work onsite in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, finance, or related field. Experience in oncology or complex care environments. Prior experience as a financial counselor or patient financial navigator. Familiarity with Cerner/Oracle, NextGen, Optum360, or similar systems.
