DESCRIPTION
This is a 12-month full-time position. The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Fiscal Specialist to support the daily fiscal operations of the Comptroller. This experienced professional will bring advanced expertise in financial management and regulatory compliance. The Fiscal Specialist will assist with year-end financial close-out, account reconciliations, advanced financial reporting, and assessing the accuracy of work performed by accounting staff to ensure compliance and consistency across all financial processes. Will help develop processes, procedures, and manuals for all F&A departmental functions. This position is an advanced-level financial or accounting role in higher education, the federal government, or the state government.
JOB DUTIES
Assist the Comptroller in the daily fiscal operations of the F&A Department, performing high-level account reconciliations, month-end and year-end financial reporting, and closing activities. Assessing and verifying the accuracy of work performed by accounting staff, such as journal entries, invoices, and monthly reports, and resolving accounting discrepancies Prepare and maintain financial documents, spreadsheets, and databases as needed. Prepare or assist with the completion of AFR, SNP, SRECNP, and other complex financial statements Assist with audit preparation and documentation Advise leadership on financial trends and operational efficiency Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting 5+ years of advanced-level experience. A combination of work experience and college credit can also be used to substitute for the bachelor's degree, but not the 5+ years of advanced experience. Strong proficiency in financial systems, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Excel.
SPECIFIC PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to sit for 6-8 hours per day, use a keyboard and mouse, and view computer screens for 6-8 hours per day. Perform typing, clicking, and writing. Basic hand-eye coordination. Occasionally lift and carry light items of 10-15 pounds. Read the text, hear it, and respond.
