About the Job MedStar Health Central Financial Clearance (CFC) In-house Patient Accounting Team is currently seeking an experienced Patient Accounts Specialist to join our amazing team. We are specifically looking for a candidate with strong experience and knowledge in insurance verification and insurance authorization as well as experience using payer portals. Full time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4pm schedule with the possibility of weekend coverage as needed. This position is predominantly remote, with intermittent on‑site obligations based on operational requirements. The CFC In-house Team is responsible for verification of insurance benefits and obtaining inpatient authorizations for all emergency admissions for the 10 MedStar Health hospitals. This team is also responsible for reviewing the length of stay approval from the payer prior to releasing the accounts for billing. Job Summary - Secures insurance benefits, patient liability and authorization for all services designated as CFC responsibility. Works in a team environment to ensure departmental goals and KPIs are met. Works closely with Utilization Review to ensure clinical documentation is submitted timely and all days are approved. Maintains daily performance benchmarks to include verification and authorization of accounts for all payers. Minimum Qualifications- High school graduation or equivalent. 1 year experience in patient accounting, accounts receivable, or related healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of experience and college education in Accounting, Finance or Healthcare Administration. Detailed working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in multiple payers application billing and/or collection processes, including governmental and non-governmental. Requires basic working knowledge of UB04 and/or 1500 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Requires some knowledge of medical terminology and
CPT/ICD-9/10
coding. Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficient uses of hospital registration and/or billing systems and personal computers as well as Microsoft Excel and Word applications. Ability to type 35 WPM. This position has a hiring range of USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
