Meaningful work that directly impacts lives Supportive, mission-driven environment Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits Growth opportunities within the organization Position Overview The Representative Payee Specialist plays a key role in managing and monitoring the financial accounts of Social Security beneficiaries who rely on The Arc New Mexico for financial assistance. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws while providing exceptional service to clients, guardians, and case managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Financial Benefits:
Oversee Social Security, disability, and other benefits for clients, ensuring accurate deposits and proper fund distribution. Budgeting & Payments:
Develop and manage monthly budgets, process client payables (rent, utilities, food, allowances, and other essential expenses), and verify emergency fund requests. Client Support & Compliance:
Maintain accurate financial records, submit required reports to Social Security, Medicaid, and the Income Support Division, and assist clients in understanding their financial situation. Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with guardians, case managers, and clients to ensure financial stability and compliance with regulations. Reporting & Documentation:
Generate monthly wage reports, update confidential databases, and maintain organized records following SSA Rep Payee requirements. Program Support:
Assist the Rep-Payee Program Manager in monitoring collective accounts, ensuring proper financial oversight and compliance with regulations. What You Need to Succeed:
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required + 1+ year of experience in bookkeeping, clerical work, data entry, or a related field. Skills & Competencies:
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with financial data Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access) Strong communication and customer service skills (in-person, phone, email) Preferred:
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or mental health needs. Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) receive an additional $1K annually! Work Environment & Requirements:
Routine office environment with occasional early evening or weekend hours. Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs. unassisted (40 lbs. with assistance), and travel locally as needed. Valid Driver's License & Background Check Required. Compensation & Benefits:
