5/20/2026 4:30 PM Central Job Summary The Policy & Finance Intern supports special projects at the City of Mound to gain practical experience in governmental accounting, budgeting, policy, and customer service functions. This internship is designed for undergraduate students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in public administration, finance, accounting, business, or a related field who are interested in careers in public finance. This position can work up to a maximum of 20 hours a week with a minimum requirement of 5 hours per week. The internship will run from May to August. Essential Duties Assist with data entry, filing, scanning, and records management in accordance with retention requirements. Help prepare spreadsheets, reports, and financial analyses using Microsoft Excel and other financial software. Assist staff with audit preparation activities. Research public finance policies and best practices to inform finance policy updates. Assist with budget preparation and capital improvement tracking. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of basic accounting practices. Ability to conduct research and synthesize information. Ability to analyze data andidentifydiscrepancies. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment. Ability to learn governmental finance processes and procedures. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Current undergraduate student pursuing or recent graduate with a degree in public administration, finance, business, or a related field. Completion of at least two years of college coursework preferred. Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial terminology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications Prior office, customer service, or administrative experience. Interestinpublic service and public finance. Experience working with spreadsheets, conducting policy research, and working independently. This position is not eligible for benefits. 01 Do you have a High School diploma or GED?
