3 Yorktown, VA Job Details Full-time 4 hours ago Qualifications Computer operation Financial data reconciliation Computer literacy Basic math Research Math Accounting and finance experience Full Job Description Financial Accounting Specialist I Yorktown, VA 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a full-time Financial Accounting Specialist I to support our Financial Accounting Department. Scheduled hours will be 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Financial Accounting Specialist I is responsible for analyzing and reconciling detailed general ledger accounts, daily work, end of the month reports, and financial reconciliations as assigned. Performs all accounts payable functions. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Position researches and resolves outages, discrepancies, and accounting errors. Completes related reports, summaries, and records. Performs clerical duties and assists with financial accounting functions as required.   • Essential Functions & Responsibilities Assumes responsibility for accurate and timely completion of assigned functions including TCM, Accounts Payable, Bank Rec, GL Reconciliations, Trailer Totals, SWM files, GL Posting corrections, Daily Credit Card Recons, Branch & ATM Currency Processing, Online Banking and other Account Reconciliations, Bank Wires, and maintains department supplies.
Assumes responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving problems and discrepancies within assigned duties and related tasks. To complete required training, work on projects, and perform other job-related duties as assigned. Performance Measurement Reconciles TCM daily to include, processing proof corrections, review of duplicate items report, and review of EL balances Process Accounts Payable which includes proper GL classification, AP workflow routing, and accurate, timely payments to vendors. Process daily/monthly bank reconciliation. Balance the trailer totals daily, to include researching outages, posting corrections, and validating information. Performs other General Ledger reconciliations as assigned to include Daily Credit Cards, Online Banking and other accounts, assisting branches and departments with end-of-the-month reports and researching entries. Assists in maintaining record retention schedule, updating FAD procedures, inventory list, and misc. typing as needed. Assists with dormant account processing. Assists with ATM Cassette processing and reconciliations. Process Branch and ATM currency orders. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relationships with all credit union personnel. a. Assists other Financial Accounting Department colleagues as required. b. Performs departmental cross-training as required. c. Attend and participate in meetings as required. d. Keeps supervisor informed of area activities and of any significant problems. e. Performs clerical duties as assigned. f. Completes special projects as required. g. Qualifications:
Experience One year to three years of similar or related experience. Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures, including account reconciliations. Knowledge of related computer applications. Education A two-year degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience. Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. Other Skills Well organized and detail oriented. Good math skills. Attentive to detail and accurate. Able to use PC, calculator, and other basic business machines. Physical Requirements Talking

  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents, read email and computer screens, and operate office machinery. Physical Strength
  • Sedentary work; sitting at a desk or workstation a majority of work hours. Exerts up to 25lbs. of force occasionally and required to lift up to 25lbs. Reaching and Stretching
  • Reaching and stretching, below the shoulders, to access files, checks, documents, or office equipment on and across shelves, counter, and desks.
