Job Description
About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Commercial Banking Relationship Manager for Government for the Mountain/Midwest region as part of the Commercial Bank. The selected candidate will lead and grow strategic relationships with large government entities—including cities, counties, school districts, utilities, and transit authorities—by delivering tailored financial solutions and acting as a trusted advisor across the full suite of banking services. This role requires deep expertise in public sector operations, funding mechanisms, and regulatory environments. In this role, you will:
Client Relationship Management:
Develop, retain, and grow complex relationships with large public sector clients by understanding their strategic priorities, funding cycles, and operational challenges. Act as a strategic advisor to financial decision-makers within government entities, proactively managing expectations and delivering insights that support long-term partnership.Advisory & Structuring:
Advise senior leadership on structuring, modifying, and renewing complex credit facilities— tailored to the unique needs of government clients. Analyze financial statements, budget documents, and funding sources to support credit decisions and present solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.Solution Leadership:
Lead the delivery of highly customized banking solutions across treasury management, capital markets and bank credit. Collaborate with product teams to design and implement solutions that align with public sector mandates, compliance requirements, and long-term capital planning.Strategic Vision & Innovation:
Provide thought leadership and strategic direction to senior leadership on cross-functional initiatives that enhance public sector banking capabilities. Influence enterprise-wide strategies to better serve government clients, including digital transformation, grant management, and intergovernmental partnerships.Enterprise Engagement & Risk Management:
Engage across the enterprise to improve processes, enhance risk controls, and resolve complex client issues while maintaining compliance with municipal rules and procurement ethics. Serve as a mentor to junior colleagues and a subject matter expert on public sector banking.Sales Discipline & Pipeline Management:
Drive relationship planning and maintain disciplined pipeline management through CRM systems and strategic account reviews. Support business development efforts by leveraging existing networks and cultivating new relationships with government entities.Product Partnership:
Partner with Commercial Lending Product Management to inform the design and delivery of credit solutions that meet the evolving needs of public sector clients. Advocate for innovation in public finance products, including tax-exempt lending, sustainability-linked loans, and federal/state funding integration.Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Commercial Banking Relationship Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, educationDesired Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to build long term relationships with government clients and extensive experience with the RFP process Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of core banking products and services, such as commercial lending and treasury management with focus on the public sector Experience developing and maintaining external partnerships with Financial Advisors and key stakeholders Completion of formal credit training program Demonstrated experience working collaboratively to deliver the organization to clients and prospects Demonstrated experience generating new client relationships, building and retaining long-term client relationships Experience identifying and mitigating risk, ensuring compliance with processes and procedures Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsJob Expectations:

- 55431 Pay Range Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities. $153,000.00
