The Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for ensuring payers are prepared to reimburse Graham Health System for scheduled services and Inpatient and Observation stays in accordance with the payer requirements. The Specialist will work in collaboration with clinical staff to request authorization for the service(s) to be performed. This position reports to the Director of GH Patient Access. Position Requirements High School Diploma with two years of college or professional schooling preferred. Some experience in medical billing or insurance authorization. Position Knowledge/Skills Understanding of clinic and hospital operations in relation to patient registration, referrals, authorizations, and point of service collections. Expert verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels and groups of people. Comprehensive working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial third party insurance processes required. Intermediate computer skills including Windows programs (Excel and Word). Ability to make decisions and work independently. Ability to multitask between multiple technology systems with interruptions.
