GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles is seeking a temporary (6 months) ReBUILD Navigation Underwriter to support the effective and timely review of applicant files for Habitat LA's disaster recovery programs serving wildfire-impacted households. This position is responsible for assessing financial eligibility, analyzing complex income and documentation scenarios, identifying file deficiencies, and helping move applicants through the review and approval process with consistency and accuracy. The Underwriter works closely with the ReBUILD Navigation team to ensure applicant files are thoroughly evaluated, properly documented, and aligned with program requirements, while supporting efficient file progression and high-quality service delivery for survivors navigating the rebuilding and recovery process. This is a temporary, part-time position expected to last approximately six (6) months, based on program and funding needs.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Applicant File Review & Underwriting Review and assess applicant files for disaster recovery programs to determine financial and program eligibility. Analyze income, assets, documentation, and complex financial scenarios to ensure compliance with program guidelines, funding requirements, and organizational standards. File Management & Documentation Compliance Identify missing or inconsistent documentation, communicate file deficiencies to appropriate staff, and ensure applicant files are complete, accurate, and properly maintained. Support quality control and documentation tracking throughout the review and approval process. Cross-Functional Coordination & Technical Support Collaborate closely with the ReBUILD Navigation team, program staff, and leadership to support applicant progression, resolve file challenges, provide technical underwriting guidance, and assist with workflow coordination related to applicant approvals and pipeline management. Reporting, Process Improvement & Program Support Support data tracking, pipeline reporting, and continuous improvement efforts related to underwriting and applicant review processes. Assist with the development and refinement of procedures, tools, and systems that strengthen efficiency, consistency, and service delivery.
SUMMARY OF JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Review and underwrite applicant files to determine financial and program eligibility in compliance with program guidelines and funding requirements. Analyze income, assets, and supporting documentation to assess eligibility and identify complex financial scenarios or file discrepancies. Identify missing or incomplete documentation and coordinate with appropriate staff to ensure applicant files are accurate, complete, and properly maintained. Collaborate with the ReBUILD Navigation team and program staff to support applicant progression, resolve file issues, and maintain workflow efficiency. Support quality control, pipeline tracking, reporting, and process improvement efforts related to underwriting and applicant review activities. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive applicant information while providing professional, survivor-centered service throughout the review process Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, background check, (credit) authorization, and a driving record check

COMPENSATION
Pay Range:
$25.00 - $29.00 Salary offers are based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, experience, and qualifications. Offers are between the entry to mid-level range.
