General Summary:
The Consumer Lending Underwriter is responsible for underwriting secured and unsecured consumer loans in accordance with credit union underwriting standards and product guidelines.
Key Essential Responsibilities:
Effectively manages assigned pipeline within loan origination system (LOS). Completes all tasks in LOS queues to ensure a high level of service is provided to Digital, Branch, and Indirect lending business lines. Approves or denies auto loans (direct and indirect), personal loans, and credit cards up to designated lending authority. Ensures that consumer loan applications are underwritten and processed consistent with company guidelines, policies, and procedures to protect the credit union's loan portfolio. Communicates loan decisions to production team. Explores opportunities to assist credit union members or staff by recommending available products or services to meet member needs. Mitigates risk for the credit union by exercising sound judgment during credit application evaluations. Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors. Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology. Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and banking/credit union regulations. Performs additional duties as required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree or relevant business coursework preferred. Will consider experience in lieu of degree. Three years' experience in retail banking, mortgage or consumer lending, or loan origination. Experience working as an underwriter (1 year) or within loan fulfillment team (processing, closing, funding). General knowledge of consumer loan products, features, and benefits. Knowledge of consumer loan pricing, policies and procedures a plus. Working knowledge of consumer finance. Excellent organizational, problem solving, communication and time management skills. Ability to effectively multi-task. Familiarity with core banking and LOS systems (Fiserv
DNA, CUDL/L360
