Job Description

at Central Illinois Mutual Insurance in Villa Grove, Illinois, United States Job Description Under general guidance and direction, the underwriter is responsible for risk selection and matching product/pricing to the risk exposure. In doing so, underwriter exercises independent judgment while generally applying company risk selection and pricing guidelines. This position requires extensive knowledge of basic insurance principles and coverage forms.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives, reviews, and evaluates new business applications and supporting documentation. Determines acceptability of the risk within the appropriate classification by assessing values, coverages, and claim history. Underwriter prepares new business policy for issuance, assembles policy with correct forms and declarations pages, and mails policy. Answers agent inquiries regarding risk acceptability and program placement. Understand our online quoting system, processing systems, insurance to value software, and provide assistance to external users. Reviews and processes policy change requests. Review existing policies and prepare for renewal. Review property surveys and assess risk potential. Send appropriate notices to insured and/or agent. Follow up on response to notices and take appropriate actions. Reviews certain risks for continued acceptability and takes appropriate action.
Ensure Compliance:
Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to issuance and nonrenewal of policies.
Maintain Relationships:
