Job Description
Our client is seeking a dynamic underwriting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment where strategy, collaboration, and leadership come together. As the Underwriting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in guiding complex underwriting decisions, mentoring and developing a talented team, and partnering closely with clients, carrier partners, and internal stakeholders across the organization. This is an opportunity for a confident communicator and technical expert who can balance multiple priorities, drive operational excellence, and elevate the underwriting function through strong leadership, sound judgment, and exceptional service delivery. Job Duties Prepare, review, and approve rating and plan design quotes within agency's underwriting models Ensure proposals and underwriting analyses are accurate, complete, and delivered on time Oversee the day-to-day workflow of underwriting staff, including prioritization of assignments and quality review of work Mentor, train, and develop underwriting staff to build technical underwriting skills, business judgment, and client communication abilities Collaborate with clients to gather additional information needed for underwriting decisions or to explain underwriting outcomes Coordinate with senior leadership on complex cases, escalated issues, and strategic client situations Provide feedback and recommendations for improvement in rating models, underwriting processes, training programs, and client interaction Establish and reinforce underwriting standards, best practices, and quality control procedures Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management of underwriting staff as needed Serve as a subject matter expert for complex underwriting matters and carrier interactions Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business or related field required Five or more years of health insurance underwriting experience required Prior supervisory, team lead, or management experience required Exceptional administrative, organizational, and analytical skills Strong leadership presence with a friendly and engaging personality Natural attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple team members and project deadlines in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced underwriting staff Ability to identify process improvement opportunities in underwriting models, workflows, and client service practices
