Job Description

The Credit Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and structuring commercial loans, evaluating credit worthiness, assessing risk and the repayment capacity analysis of borrowers, and preparing transaction justification for moderate to complex loan transactions. Essential Duties Primary underwriter for construction loans, new and renewed, working with loan officers and portfolio managers. Provide conditions to close or underwrite and structure straightforward and complex construction transactions. Ensuring projects are on budget and on schedule by reviewing construction budgets and verifying that loan advances are warranted by work completed. Evaluate credit worthiness, analyzing the overall financial strengths and weaknesses of each borrower through reviewing current and historical financial information and decisioning on whether a client should receive a credit facility. Preparing accurate, objective, and cogent credit write-ups based upon in-depth analysis of financial data within established time limits and keeping credit risk ratings current throughout the life of the loan and borrower banking relationship. Delivering financial modeling, loan structure, industry, economic, and other analysis to team members to support the loan decision-making process and explaining credit decisions to clients. Maintain knowledge of lending requirements, internal policies and procedures, and compliance and regulatory requirements. Analyze collateral as a secondary repayment source to assess the secured position of the Bank. Education and Experience College degree preferred Advanced proficiency in commercial lending operations, driven by a strong focus on construction financing, commercial real estate, and C&I portfolios. Experience with financial analysis. Advanced planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementation skills with little or no supervision. Knowledge of Abrigo/Sageworks and Jack Henry products a plus. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Professional work environment with moderate noise. Ability to sit and stand extended lengths of time.
