Job Description
Overview The Corporate Underwriting Specialist plays a critical role in helping drive profitable growth by serving as a subject-matter expert on underwriting appetite, guidelines, and best practices. This role partners closely with Product, Regional Underwriting, Sales teams to ensure risks are evaluated consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with the company's strategic objectives. The position focuses on improving underwriting clarity, operational efficiency, and top-line growth—without sacrificing underwriting efficacy or profitability. Responsibilities Leverage industry segment data to drive profitable top‑line growth by helping teams identify and target classes of business aligned with our appetite. Educate the field on cross‑sell strategies, eligible industry segments, and how to effectively assess opportunities. Support Product by providing insight to help adjust underwriting appetite based on portfolio performance, market dynamics, and strategic growth initiatives. Identify system, form, state, and coverage gaps, and propose solutions to address them, partnering with Product Management teams to assess competitor offerings to inform positioning and appetite decisions. Translate Underwriting Guidelines into Clear, Practical Direction - Simplify complex underwriting guidance into actionable steps that underwriters and sales leaders can readily apply. Collaborate with underwriting and operations to streamline workflows, reduce friction points, and improve turnaround times. Train underwriters on how to conduct impactful phone outreach and lead effective in‑person and virtual agency visits. Key focus areas include cross‑sell opportunities, system navigation, AmTrust capabilities, pipeline quality, LOB‑specific appetite guidance, and digital training resources. Identify Inconsistencies in underwriting decisions and provide clear guidance on corrective actions to improve decision quality and UW output consistency. Collaborate on strategies to advance Amtrust's value proposition in target industries, including providing content for marketing materials in partnership with Marketing and Product Strategy to advance brand presence and industry specialization, where appropriate. The expected salary range for this role is $58,500-$85,000.00. Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only.
