Build your future with us Our Surety department is currently seeking an Underwriting Director in our commercial and small contract division. Surety bonding involves assessing the ability of one party to fulfill an obligation to another party according to the terms of a contract or statute. This position is located at our headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. It requires you to be in the office Monday - Thursday with a WFH option on Friday.
Salary:
The starting pay for this position ranges from $140,000 - $220,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
Responsibilities:
possess the skills and leadership ability to direct and lead a team of production and field underwriters for profitable growth display a mastery of all underwriting tasks required for Commercial Surety and Small Contract Surety. possess an awareness and knowledge of each territory within the commercial surety and small surety team and develop a working relationship with each of the team's underwriter, field reps, and underwriting managers demonstrate a high level of proficiency in analysis, administration, marketing/negotiation and communication able to handle complex underwriting requests and know when to get senior management involved. mentors team underwriters on advanced topics of financial and risk analysis advise and make proposals for policy and underwriting changes based on changes in underwriting conditions and marketplace ability to analyze underwriting territory portfolio, develop strategy and implement plan offers advice and direction to underwriters along with approval assistance effectively communicate areas of concern on new and/or existing business evaluate and make decisions on changes to processes/procedures assist the team as requested with respect to the daily workflow and activity Be equipped with Skills, traits & behaviors: be willing and able to assume special functions, roles or responsibilities demonstrate a high level of proficiency in analysis, administration, communication and support high level knowledge for all aspects of the role (all systems and technologies; team, territory and department processes; insurance knowledge, etc.) demonstrated higher level communication skills (persuasive communication, cool under pressure, etc.) and respected in relationships including other departments build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect recover quickly from setbacks, and find alternative ways to reach goals or targets demonstrate ability to lead and help others resolve complex or sensitive underwriting accounts situations handle high workloads, competing demands, vague assignments, interruptions, and distractions with poise and ease demonstrates the highest level of proficiency in agency marketing able to identify, propose, underwrite and execute profitable program opportunities with the highest customer service and satisfaction
Knowledge:
demonstrate the highest level of proficiency in underwriting, administration, communications, and support display a mastery of underwriting and administrative tools and procedures Bring education or experience from: a bachelor's degree from the business college with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, or Economics is preferred along with a minimum of 5 years underwriting or leading in surety Enhance your talents Providing outstanding service and developing strong relationships with our independent agents are hallmarks of our company.
