Job Description Tax Controller Private Equity Fund | Houston, Texas A leading Private Equity firm based in Houston is seeking a Tax Controller to join its finance and fund operations team. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing all tax-related matters across the management company, investment funds, portfolio investments, and affiliated entities. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of tax experience, preferably beginning their career within a Big 4 accounting firm before transitioning into private equity, asset management, family office, or alternative investment environments. This role offers direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to manage complex tax structures across a sophisticated investment platform. Key Responsibilities Manage all federal, state, and local tax compliance obligations for the private equity funds, management company, and related entities. Oversee the preparation and review of partnership, corporate, and individual tax returns. Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and service providers. Review quarterly and annual tax provisions and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards. Monitor tax implications associated with acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and other investment transactions. Support fund structuring initiatives and evaluate tax-efficient investment strategies. Review investor tax reporting, including Schedule K-1s and related tax allocations. Assist with tax planning initiatives for fund principals and affiliated entities. Research and analyze complex tax matters and provide recommendations to senior management. Support annual audits and financial reporting processes. Develop and improve internal tax processes, controls, and reporting procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. CPA designation strongly preferred. 5-8 years of relevant tax experience. Prior experience within a Big 4 public accounting firm is highly preferred. Experience with partnership taxation and complex investment structures. Strong understanding of private equity fund structures, investment partnerships, and carried interest arrangements. Familiarity with federal and multi-state tax compliance requirements. Advanced Excel skills and experience working with tax software platforms. Strong analytical, organizational, and project management abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact directly with executives, investors, and external advisors.
