What You Need To Know In order to be successful in this role you should have the the following experience: Experience in the asset management and the roadway maintenance areas. Roadway maintenance experience is a plus as you will spend a significant amount of time working in this area and with this group. Experience in assessing system performance, developing investment strategies to achieve the greatest benefit, setting data-driven performance targets, and developing maturity plans to improve asset performance in the roadway maintenance area. Be comfortable with GIS, ATOM, and data visualization tools. About the Role You will be expected to move beyond "we need to fix this" to "if we invest here, we extend the life cycle and improve the condition of our assets". Some of the assets that will be managed are facilities, striping. culverts, barriers, etc.. You should understand these assets and what the maintenance group does, and what their challenges are. You will establish and monitor a plan to improve our assets, incorporate risk elements, and mature our decision making trade-offs. You will need to have great communication skills and be able to translate complex data into "plain English". Position Details This position is open to both engineers and non-engineers.

06/10/2026 Key Responsibilities Strategy & Planning Develop and help implement the Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP). Be one of the statewide experts on asset funding allocation and strategic trade-offs, particularly in the area of maintenance . Lead the way in evaluating asset improvement, incorporating risk elements, and determining life cycle of assets, particularly in the area of maintenance. Institutionalize a strategic approach to asset management across the department. Optimization & Performance Develop cross-asset allocation tools to enable sound, optimized investment and resource allocation decisions. Balance decisions based on life-cycle costs, advanced analytics, and minimizing or eliminating risks. Develop and implement performance metrics to measure the health and efficiency of assigned assets. Work to integrate assets into a cohesive system for effective management. Collaboration & Coordination Serve as the Asset Management group representative to the ATOM team. Coordinate innovative approaches to analyzing, planning, investing, building, maintaining, and operating assets. Coordinate with other state asset groups and regions, as well as internal and external stakeholders. Data & Risk Management Help the Department with Proactive Risk Management strategies to enhance the resilience of our assets. Work so the Department can make Data-Driven Decisions Serve as the subject matter expert for the maintenance area, applying knowledge of assets dealt with in maintenance operations. Qualifications Engineer Candidates ($48.10 - $76.27) Registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah. At least four (4) years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE. Non-engineer Candidates ($45.53 - $72.25) A Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in a related field AND at least eight (8) years of professional relevant experience in asset management or a closely related field.
Note:
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis (e.g., 12 years of total related experience if no degree is held).
