Summary Responsible for soliciting new real estate loans, examining, evaluating, underwriting, and authorizing or recommending loan approvals for all our real estate loan products. Always projects a positive, friendly, and professional image for the credit union through interactions with members and co-workers. Familiar with BSA and OFAC requirements, lending regulations, and follows required reporting duties. Responsibilities Meets with and interviews potential and current members to understand their lending needs including first-time mortgages and refinance of existing loans. Explains the differences between various types of mortgage products and their approval requirements. Prepares and presents a lending product solution based on member specifications. Assists members with the completion of mortgage applications, inspecting completed documents for accuracy and thoroughness. Reviews loan applications, gathers credit histories and reports, and assesses applicant's capacity to repay and default risk. Based on predetermined requirements, assesses, underwrites, and grants or rejects mortgage applications. Attend pertinent loan closings as needed. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the local real estate market; current and predicted lending rates; and changes in rules, regulations, and best practices of various mortgages. Develops and maintains contacts with local realtors, developers, and builders to promote and encourage the use of credit union services for residential mortgages. Review current and potential new real estate lending products to determine changes and enhancements that would benefit the membership. Seeks out opportunities to enhance the members' financial lives by recognizing and referring additional credit union products. Reinforce continuous collaboration and respectful communication between all departments by promoting strong, positive and productive working relationships through the commitment to the company's core values, vision and mission statements. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum 1-2 years progressive lending experience, preferably in real estate lending. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. Strong negotiation skills with the ability to close deals effectively. Familiarity with financial software and loan processing systems. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on member satisfaction. Knowledge of Fair Housing regulations is preferred but not required. Exceptional analytical skills with a strong attention to detail, ability to plan, prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
