Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter for a direct hire opportunity in Columbia, SC. This role is ideal for a mortgage lending professional with strong credit analysis skills, sound underwriting judgment, and proven experience reviewing conventional, FHA, VA, and government-backed mortgage loans. The Mortgage Underwriter will join a well-established financial institution within the banking and consumer lending industry. The ideal candidate will be confident evaluating loan applications, identifying risk, and making sound recommendations that support responsible lending decisions. Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze applicants' financial status, credit history, income, assets, liabilities, and property evaluations to determine loan eligibility and lending risk.
  • Review conventional, FHA, VA, and government loan files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policy and applicable lending guidelines.
  • Obtain, review, and compile credit reports, financial statements, borrower documentation, and other required loan file information.
  • Communicate with applicants, loan officers, and internal lending partners to gather information, clarify documentation, and answer questions about the mortgage process.
  • Explain loan types, credit options, terms, and documentation requirements in a clear, professional, and customer-focused manner.
  • Review loan agreements and supporting documentation to ensure files are complete, accurate, and ready for underwriting decisions. Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $75,000 to $80,000 per year.
