About the Company Insight Global is partnering with a growing automotive dealership group in the Los Angeles area to hire a Payroll Director to oversee and lead their centralized payroll operations. About the Role This individual will step into a highly visible leadership role, managing payroll for a multi-location organization operating under a center-of-excellence model across HR, accounting, and payroll. The Payroll Director will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across a complex, commission-driven environment. This role will lead a team of payroll professionals, strengthen existing processes, and drive operational improvements while maintaining compliance with California payroll laws and regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and excited to make a meaningful impact within an evolving organization. Responsibilities Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for a multi-entity automotive organization with commission-based compensation structures Ensure compliance with federal, state (California), and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws Manage and develop a team of payroll specialists, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance oversight Review and improve payroll processes, controls, and reporting to increase efficiency and accuracy Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and leadership teams to support business operations and resolve payroll-related issues Handle complex payroll scenarios, including commissions, draws, and variable compensation structures Lead payroll reporting and analytics to provide insights into payroll trends and performance Support audits and ensure proper documentation and compliance standards are maintained Qualifications 7+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership capacity Strong experience managing payroll in a high-volume, commission-based environment Deep understanding of California payroll laws and regulations Proven experience managing and developing a payroll team Strong attention to detail and ability to navigate complex payroll structures Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders Required Skills 7+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership capacity Strong experience managing payroll in a high-volume, commission-based environment Deep understanding of California payroll laws and regulations Proven experience managing and developing a payroll team Strong attention to detail and ability to navigate complex payroll structures Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders Preferred Skills Automotive industry experience Experience processing payroll for dealership or similar environments Familiarity with compensation structures involving commissions and draws Pay range and compensation package $130,000 - $160,000 base salary Equal Opportunity Statement We are committed to diversity and inclusivity in our hiring practices.
