Overview We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor with expertise in the construction industry to lead our payroll operations. This pivotal role involves managing payroll processes for a diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in payroll management, accounting software, and human resources systems to support our ongoing commitment to excellence. Required Knowledge, Skills & Training High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years of payroll experience with a strong focus on union construction payroll Extensive experience interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) Strong knowledge of certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage compliance Experience with union fringe benefit reporting, pension contributions, and dues processing Prior supervisory or lead experience in payroll operations preferred Strong understanding of wage and hour laws and construction labor compliance Experience with multi-union environments and varying trade classifications High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail Strong Excel and payroll system proficiency Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment Strong communication skills for working with field supervisors, unions, and project teams CPP or FPC certification preferred Essential Job Functions Oversee all union field payroll processing for construction employees Ensure accurate application of union wage rates, classifications, fringes, and overtime rules Administer payroll in accordance with multiple collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) Process union deductions including dues, pension contributions, health & welfare, and benefit funds Validate field timecards, shift differentials, travel pay, and per diem where applicable Research and resolve payroll discrepancies specific to union labor agreements Prepare and review certified payroll reports for government and prevailing wage projects Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local prevailing wage laws Maintain accurate labor classifications by job site and project code Coordinate with project teams to ensure proper labor tracking and reporting accuracy Support internal and external payroll audits, including union and compliance audits Maintain required payroll documentation and records in accordance with regulatory standards Supervise and support Payroll Clerks/Payroll Specialists assisting with union payroll processing Train staff on union payroll rules, CBAs, and certified payroll procedures Provide guidance on complex payroll issues and escalate when necessary Partner with field supervisors and project managers to resolve timekeeping and labor coding issues Ensure timely completion of payroll cycles and reporting deadlines Maintain accurate payroll records for union employees across all job sites Prepare payroll summaries, labor distribution reports, and compliance documentation Support payroll audits and ensure adherence to internal controls Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll data at all times Identify and recommend process improvements for payroll accuracy and efficiency Attend required meetings with operations, HR, accounting, and field leadership Participate in training and compliance updates related to union payroll and construction regulations •Newport Industries is an equal opportunity employer.
