Job Description

Job Description Serves as the primary HR representative for student employees including overseeing the recruitment process, processing bi-weekly student payroll, and resolving employee relations matters. Serve as backup to Payroll Manager in order to insure all University employees receive accurate and timely pay.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Minimum of three (3) years of previous HR and/or payroll experience required. Proficiency in using HRIS/Payroll systems and Microsoft applications required. Higher education experience and experience working with Banner and Cognos software preferred. Education Bachelor's Degree Required Licenses/Certifications/Credentials Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) desired
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Perform all activities necessary to process student payroll (bi-weekly — approximately 600 checks). This includes maintaining related records, filing tax reports, voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting, and updating procedures. Ensure the student employee and time approver is set up in the time entry system in a timely manner, and communicate with departments to assess missed time sheets. Facilitate the recruitment and onboarding process, including building job descriptions, creating job requisitions in applicant tracking system(s), and acquiring all necessary onboarding documentation. Partner with Student Affairs and EDGE Center to establish student employment protocols and resolve student employment related issues. Act as first point of contact regarding employee relations, employee complaints, and supervisor questions for student employment. Coordinate with Financial Aid and Work Study partners to ensure compliance with Federal Work-Study requirements and develop efficient internal FWS procedures. Run reports, audit, and correct payroll, time sheet, and employment data in HRIS as needed. Develop and deliver training and periodic email notifications for student employees and supervisors to ensure awareness of and compliance with employment procedures. Act as a back-up for the Payroll Manager for the bi-weekly and monthly payroll, assist the Payroll Manager as needed, and complete verifications of employment (VOE). Provide employees with excellent customer service on payroll questions and concerns. Follow the guidance and direction of the supervisor, demonstrate respectful, ethical, and responsible behavior, and abide by the university's policies, procedures, and rules. Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned.
