Alexandria, VA 22305 Overview / Job Description A well-established, mission-driven organization is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for a multi-state workforce. This role is highly hands-on and requires deep expertise with ADP Workforce Now and Costpoint . The Payroll Manager will oversee the full payroll lifecycle, ensure compliance and accuracy, and support accounting and audit functions. This individual will also partner closely with Finance leadership and serve as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries across the organization. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle bi-weekly payroll processing across multiple states Oversee timekeeping, payroll maintenance, and payroll-related reporting Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll activities Audit payroll data and resolve discrepancies involving compensation, benefits, and employee records Prepare and analyze payroll reports, including journal entries and account reconciliations Respond to employee inquiries regarding direct deposits, paychecks, and payroll issues Serve as system administrator for payroll and timekeeping systems Interpret company policies and provide guidance on timesheets and payroll processes Support internal and external audits, including compiling documentation and responding to requests Maintain payroll records, labor reports, and compliance-related documentation (e.g., COBRA payments) Partner with Accounting and Finance leadership on reporting and special projects Required Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of payroll processing experience , including multi-state payroll Hands-on experience with: ADP Workforce Now (REQUIRED) Deltek Costpoint (REQUIRED) Strong understanding of payroll compliance, reporting, and reconciliation Experience supporting financial audits and reporting Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines High attention to detail and accuracy Plusses Certified Payroll Professional ( CPP ) certification Experience working in government contracting or regulated environments Prior experience working closely with auditors Exposure to labor distribution and project-based accounting
