Ensure accurate capture and approval of time, attendance, pay codes, and piece-rate calculations. Process retro pay, supplemental wages, deductions, and direct deposits. Audit timesheets, leave balances, and payroll records; maintain confidentiality and accuracy. Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws (multi-state; California required). Apply wage-and-hour rules for piece-rate employees, including overtime, rest periods, and minimum wage. Support payroll tax filings, garnishments, statutory deductions, and year-end processes (W-2s, audits). Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes. Audit, Reconciliation & Analytics Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies with Accounting. Audit weekly payroll batches to prevent errors and reprocessing. Prepare payroll, labor cost, and compliance reports for leadership. Support internal and external audits. Team Leadership Supervise, train, and coach payroll staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely payroll cycles. Review team output and enforce payroll deadlines. Foster a collaborative, service-focused team culture. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with People & Culture on employee lifecycle changes. Collaborate with Finance and Operations to validate piece-rate data and support labor analysis. Serve as escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries. Systems & Process Improvement Optimize payroll systems and integrations with HRIS and timekeeping tools. Implement process improvements and maintain SOPs. Support payroll-related system projects and upgrades. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred). 5-7+ years of payroll experience; 1-2+ years in a lead or supervisory role. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred. Strong knowledge of payroll, tax regulations, and labor laws. Experience with weekly, piece-rate, retro pay, and multi-state payroll (California required). Proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Workday, JDE) and advanced Excel. Union payroll experience a plus. #IND
