Payroll Operations Lead Robert Half - 3.9 Fresno, CA Job Details Temporary | Contract $28.50 - $33.00 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid holidays Disability insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance Qualifications Regulatory compliance Customer inquiry handling Full Job Description We are looking for a Payroll Operations Lead to oversee contract payroll operations for a multi-state workforce in Fresno, California. This Contract position plays a key role in delivering accurate, timely pay while upholding payroll regulations and supporting employees with professionalism and discretion. The individual in this role will work closely with Human Resources and Finance to maintain payroll integrity, resolve issues efficiently, and help keep payroll processes running smoothly in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end payroll processing for employees across multiple states, ensuring each pay cycle is completed accurately and on schedule. Verify payroll inputs such as hours worked, supplemental earnings, benefit deductions, and tax withholdings before final processing. Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local payroll laws to support compliant wage payments and employment practices. Maintain and update employee payroll records in payroll systems with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. Administer wage attachments, including garnishments and support-related deductions, in accordance with legal requirements. Prepare payroll reconciliations, investigate variances, and address discrepancies before and after payroll completion. Collaborate with HR on status changes such as new hires, separations, leave activity, and compensation updates to ensure payroll accuracy. Coordinate payroll tax activities, including jurisdictional reporting, reconciliations, and support for year-end processing and audit requests. Respond to employee and internal payroll questions promptly, providing clear guidance and resolution to pay-related concerns. At least 5 years of payroll experience, including work in a high-volume processing environment. Proven ability to manage full-cycle, multi-state payroll operations with strong attention to detail. Experience supporting employee populations of 500+ employees. Solid understanding of payroll compliance requirements, including wage and hour regulations and statutory deductions. Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data, identify inconsistencies, and resolve payroll issues effectively. Ability to organize work independently, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple priorities at once. Strong communication skills and a service-oriented approach when working with employees and cross-functional teams. Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
