This is a critical compliance and operational role responsible for accurate, timely payroll processing across multiple properties. This will have a heavy focus on California-specific wage and hour requirements such as meal period premiums, split shifts, and daily overtime. Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing Process semi-monthly payroll for non-exempt and exempt hotel employees across multiple properties Calculate and apply California-specific pay rules: daily overtime, meal period premiums (Labor Code §226.7), split-shift premiums, and reporting time pay Audit timekeeping records for accuracy and flag discrepancies prior to each payroll run Coordinate with property managers and department heads to resolve timekeeping issues before processing deadlines Compliance & Recordkeeping Maintain employee payroll records in accordance with California retention requirements Generate and distribute accurate wage statements meeting California Labor Code §226 requirements Support payroll audits, including preparation of documentation for internal review and state agency inquiries Stay current on California wage and hour law updates, minimum wage changes, and applicable local ordinances Systems & Reporting Enter and maintain employee data in payroll/HRIS system (Paycom experience preferred) Produce standard payroll reports: labor cost summaries, overtime analysis, department allocations Assist with year-end processing including W-2 preparation and reconciliation Identify and recommend process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency Required Qualifications 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in hospitality or a multi-location environment Working knowledge of California wage and hour law, including overtime rules, meal/rest break premiums, and pay stub requirements Proficiency with payroll software (Paycom, ADP Workforce Now, Paylocity, , or equivalent) Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic formulas) Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information Preferred Qualifications Experience processing payroll for hotel or food & beverage operations (tipped employees, shift differentials) Familiarity with California EDD reporting, SDI, and SUI requirements Bilingual English/Spanish (premium pay offered for native fluency) FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) credential Experience with multi-entity or multi-location payroll in a single pay cycle Work Environment This position is based at our Fresno administrative office with occasional travel to other properties in the hotel portfolio. Candidates must be able to work on-site during payroll processing periods. This job description provides a general overview of the role.
