Payroll Specialist (Direct Hire)
Location:
Livermore, CA (On-site)
Schedule:
Early start (6:00-7:00 AM typical; as early as 5:00 AM when needed)
Compensation:
$85,000•110,000 (DOE) Overview We are seeking a hands-on Payroll Specialist to join our clients team in a direct hire capacity. This role is ideal for someone who can roll up their sleeves , operate with urgency, and remain flexible to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time-especially during critical periods. Key Responsibilities Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees across a multi-state workforce Validate payroll inputs including timecards, pay rate changes, deductions, and earnings codes Manage regular and off-cycle payroll runs, including manual payments when necessary Handle calculations such as overtime, shift differentials, and other specialized pay structures Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations Accurately apply union agreements and pay rules Perform payroll audits, reconciliations, and resolve discrepancies Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation Work within UKG (Kronos) and payroll systems to process and validate data Reconcile data between payroll and timekeeping systems Generate payroll reports, identify inconsistencies, and escalate issues appropriately Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll-related inquiries Provide responsive support to employees regarding payroll questions Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements What We're Looking For Direct hire mindset: committed, reliable, and accountable Recent UKG experience required (must have used within the last 3 months) Multi-state payroll experience required (minimum of 10 states) Experience working in a union environment Strong payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment Advanced Excel skills (lookups, validations, reconciliations) Strong understanding of payroll compliance and regulations Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy Ability to manage tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities Willingness to work early hours and remain flexible, including starting as early as 5:00 AM when needed What Sets You Apart You take ownership and proactively solve problems You are flexible and willing to put in extra time when payroll deadlines demand it You thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
