The Role We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist with a strong background in Public Works projects, Caltrans contracts, Certified Payroll, and Labor Compliance to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing payroll and compliance requirements for California public works construction projects. This role requires extreme accuracy, exceptional organization, and a solid understanding of prevailing wage regulations and certified payroll reporting.
Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing:
Process weekly payroll accurately for public works and civil construction projects.
Certified Payroll:
Prepare, verify, and submit Certified Payroll Reports (CPRs) through required reporting portals.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure strict compliance with California prevailing wage laws, Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) regulations, and Caltrans contract requirements.
Documentation & Records:
Maintain comprehensive labor compliance documentation, certified payroll records, and employee files.
Compliance Tracking:
Track and monitor apprentice ratios, fringe benefits, and prevailing wage classifications to ensure full adherence to standards.
Inquiry Resolution:
Respond efficiently to internal and external payroll and labor compliance inquiries.
Stakeholder Coordination:
Coordinate closely with project managers, subcontractors, and government compliance agencies as needed.
Audits & Closeouts:
Ensure timely and accurate reporting for labor compliance audits and official project closeouts. Qualifications Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist, Labor Compliance Specialist, or a similar role focusing on public works construction. Strong, foundational understanding of California prevailing wage laws, DIR regulations, and Caltrans requirements. High level of accuracy, organizational skills, and strict attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is a must. You should be completely comfortable utilizing laptops, tablets, and digital payroll/compliance systems. Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, subcontractors, and government agencies. Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight weekly payroll and reporting deadlines. A high school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or degrees in accounting, finance, or business administration are a plus. Compensation & Perks We believe in paying for top-tier talent. Starting Pay Rate:
$20-$25/hour (or more depending on relevant experience)
