This role is ideal for a payroll specialist who brings strong multi-state processing experience and a solid grasp of wage compliance requirements within project-based environments. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-volume payroll function while supporting accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuous operational improvement.
Responsibilities:
Administer end-to-end payroll processing for employees, ensuring accurate pay calculations, timely distribution, and complete payroll record maintenance. Oversee weekly and biweekly multi-state payroll for a large employee population, including deductions, benefit withholdings, tax payments, and wage attachments. Monitor payroll activities for compliance with prevailing wage rules, union pay requirements, and Davis-Bacon regulations. Lead and support payroll team members by providing guidance, reviewing work quality, and helping maintain efficient department operations. Examine payroll practices, tax rules, and benefit-related procedures to identify improvements and implement stronger controls and workflows. Perform audits of payroll documents and balances, including employee tax forms, earnings records, and payroll reconciliations, to maintain accuracy. Collaborate with finance, human resources, and other departments to resolve discrepancies, align shared data, and support reporting needs. Contribute to payroll process enhancements and system-related improvements that strengthen efficiency, consistency, and compliance. Hands-on experience managing full-cycle payroll across multiple states. Background in construction, project-based accounting, or similar industries with complex payroll requirements. Working knowledge of prevailing wage processing and Davis-Bacon compliance. Familiarity with payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and payroll accounting concepts such as debits and credits. Experience using payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
