Position Summary:
At Premium Loaves, we move fast, execute flawlessly, and take care of our people — just like we do our sandwiches. We're looking for a Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple states. You'll be the go-to expert for all things payroll — from wage and hour compliance to system reporting — and will play a critical role in supporting our field teams and corporate staff. Prior payroll experience is a plus, but not required — we're looking for someone who is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment, and is eager to learn and grow.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Processes accurate and timely biweekly payroll for employees across multiple states Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and tax regulations Maintains and audits payroll records, including direct deposits, deductions, and tax withholdings Processes wage garnishments, levies, and other court-ordered deductions in compliance with federal and state regulations; ensures timely and accurate withholding and remittance Research and resolves payroll discrepancies quickly and professionally Collaborates with HR and Accounting team to ensure employee changes and payroll data are correctly captured and reconciled Uploads and posts payroll journal entries to the General Ledger in Sage, ensuring accuracy and proper account coding Assists with special projects such as process improvements, system implementations, compliance updates, policy documentation, and year-end processing Serves as a subject matter expert for payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and HR Enters, maintains, and processes information in Paycom; information may include processing new hire information, employees' hourly rates, salaries, bonuses, driver maintenance reimbursements, tips, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information. Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and related software Proficient with HRIS software (Paycom preferred) Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Proven ability to meet deadlines Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required Degree in Human Resources, Accounting or related field is preferred Minimum 2+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll processing is preferred Strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and compliance requirements is preferred Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or currently pursuing certification is preferred
