Job Summary:
The Part-Time Payroll Assistant works closely with the Payroll Accountant to support all aspects of the bi-weekly payroll process for approximately 500 employees, including reviewing payroll data, verifying time records, processing payroll changes, and resolving discrepancies. This position will coordinate and administer employee benefit programs for all eligible district employees, ensuring accurate enrollment, maintenance, and compliance with all applicable collective bargaining agreements and district policies.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in accounting or other Business/Human Resources related fields, or equivalent preferred. Experience administering payroll and/or benefits, preferably in a school district environment. Ability to work independently and as an effective team member while handling confidential information with discretion. Able to organize, plan, and work accurately and quickly under operational deadlines. Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude required. Effective communication and customer service skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as Excel and Word office applications.
Job Description:
Serve as the primary backup in the absence of the Payroll Accountant. Assist the Payroll Accountant with bi-weekly payroll processing when needed. Administer all employee benefit programs for eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, and other voluntary benefits. Manage all aspects of employee benefit enrollment, changes, and terminations, ensuring timely and accurate processing in accordance with plan requirements and district policies. Calculate employee benefit contributions and payroll deductions, including prorated amounts, employer contributions, and adjustments resulting from qualifying life events, leaves of absence, and employment status changes. Coordinate annual open enrollment activities, including employee communications, benefit elections, eligibility verification, and system updates. Maintain accurate benefit records and ensure proper reconciliation between payroll, benefit administration systems, and insurance carrier invoices. Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and benefits in a timely and professional manner. Maintain a working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and individual employee contracts. Assist with audits by providing payroll documentation and reports as requested. Follow District policies and procedures to address and resolve questions and problems and to provide support to administrators and department staff. Perform other projects as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires long periods of computer work, standing, sitting, and walking. The position requires occasional lifting of supplies. Work may include some travel to other schools or locations.
Schedule:
Part-Time 12 months per year with a flexible schedule of approximately 20-30 hours per week, depending on district needs
Compensation:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
