Job Description

Payroll Clerk Job Description A Payroll Clerk is responsible for assisting with payroll processing and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. The role involves maintaining payroll records, entering employee data, reviewing timesheets, and helping ensure compliance with payroll policies and regulations. Duties and Responsibilities Process employee payroll accurately and timely Review and verify timesheets, attendance records, and leave balances Enter employee data including new hires, terminations, salary changes, deductions, and direct deposit information into payroll systems such as Workday Maintain confidential employee payroll and personnel records Assist with payroll audits and resolve payroll discrepancies Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits Prepare payroll reports and assist with year-end payroll processing Ensure compliance with payroll laws, policies, and procedures Process employee garnishments, child support orders, and other payroll deductions Complete and maintain vehicle log sheets and mileage documentation Process and maintain Space Jump invoices and payment documentation Assist with filing, recordkeeping, and other administrative duties as assigned Maintain organized payroll files and supporting documentation Perform other job duties as assigned by management Skills and Qualifications Knowledge of payroll procedures and payroll software Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to maintain confidentiality Excellent organizational and communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and office applications Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required Payroll, clerical, accounting, or administrative experience preferred Experience with payroll systems and invoice processing preferred Starting Salary $40,470 Job Posting Close Date Open Until Filled Mission Statement Hinds County Government is committed to the essentials in building a competitive future, enhancing the quality of life, ensuring a quality work force, promoting a more attractive business climate, and forging a stronger economy in our county for all citizens.
