Payroll Coordinator Action Accounting Services Greensboro, NC Job Details Contract $18 - $19 an hour 2 days ago Qualifications Customer communication Client services Organizational skills Business Associate's degree Account management Full Job Description Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator to support small business clients within our CPA firm. This role is responsible for processing payroll, managing payroll tax filings, responding to agency inquiries, and providing day-to-day payroll support to a diverse client base. The ideal candidate is organized, client-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced professional services environment. Key Responsibilities Process weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls for multiple small business clients Enter and review payroll data including hours, salaries, bonuses, commissions, deductions, garnishments, and benefits Maintain payroll records and ensure accuracy of employee information Prepare and file federal, state, and local payroll tax returns and related filings Submit payroll tax deposits and monitor filing deadlines Respond to IRS, state, and local payroll tax notices and agency inquiries Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, tax issues, and client questions Assist clients with new hire reporting, employee setup, and payroll system onboarding Process year-end payroll functions including W-2s, 1099s, and payroll reconciliations Reconcile payroll reports to general ledger and accounting records as needed Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and client information Communicate professionally with clients regarding payroll schedules, deadlines, and compliance matters Stay current on payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance updates Support accounting and administrative teams with related client service tasks Qualifications 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a CPA firm, accounting firm, or multi-client environment Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and payroll compliance requirements Experience handling payroll tax filings and agency correspondence Familiarity with payroll software platforms and Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple client accounts and deadlines simultaneously Excellent written and verbal communication skills Customer service mindset with strong problem-solving abilities Associate degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred CPP or FPC certification is a plus Preferred Skills Experience with small business payroll operations Understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team Comfortable handling confidential and time-sensitive information Strong follow-through and deadline management Typical Duties May Include Processing payroll adjustments and corrections Tracking PTO and benefit deductions Assisting with unemployment claims and notices Coordinating direct deposit and payroll funding activities Preparing payroll reports for clients and internal staff Supporting quarter-end and year-end compliance activities
