Financial Controller About us: Technico Construction Services Inc. is a full-service general contractor and construction management firm with a strong history of success in multimillion-dollar capital improvement projects for public agencies, including
MTA, NYC
School Construction Authority, NYC Housing Authority, and others. Technico plans and executes construction projects for the public and private sectors, including new buildings, interior and exterior renovations, alterations, and landmark restorations.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist with a strong background in union payroll to join our accounting team in New York. This role is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for union and non-union employees, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), prevailing wage requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of union payroll practices within the construction industry and the ability to manage complex payroll structures across multiple job sites.
About you:
You are an experienced Payroll specialist with an emphasis on union payroll and the ability to manage the end-to-end process. Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees across multiple construction projects Interpret and apply union contracts, including wage rates, fringe benefits, dues, and working rules Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws, including certified payroll reporting (e.g., Davis-Bacon, NYS prevailing wage) Maintain accurate payroll records, including timecards, job cost allocations, and employee deductions Calculate and remit union benefits, including pension, annuity, health, and training funds Prepare and submit certified payroll reports and union reports on time Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee payroll inquiries Coordinate with HR, project managers, and accounting to ensure accurate labor costing and reporting Ensure compliance with all payroll tax regulations and assist with audits as needed Stay current on changes in union agreements, labor laws, and payroll regulations
Qualifications:
Minimum of 35 years of payroll experience, with a strong focus on union payroll in the construction industry In-depth knowledge of union payroll, including multi-union environments and collective bargaining agreements Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting requirements Familiarity with New York labor laws and construction payroll compliance Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Viewpoint. Working knowledge of Sage (e.g., Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate or Sage 100 Contractor) strongly preferred Strong understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, and reporting requirements High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Nice to have: Experience working in a New York-based construction company Knowledge of multiple union agreements (e.g., laborers, carpenters, electricians, operating engineers) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus Whats in it for you: This is an opportunity to be part of a growing, reputable business that focuses on its people and its customers evolving needs.
