Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic finance team in the construction industry. In this role, you will be responsible for managing payroll processes accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely compensation for all employees across various departments. Your expertise will help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations while supporting HR and accounting functions. Responsibilities Process weekly payroll using payroll software system ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Create certified payroll reports. Perform detailed data entry of employee hours, salary adjustments, benefits deductions, and tax information into payroll and accounting software. Reconcile payroll accounts regularly through general ledger accounting practices, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and double-entry bookkeeping. Ensure compliance with tax regulations by reviewing and reconciling payroll taxes reporting forms accurately and on time; stay updated on relevant tax laws affecting payroll processing. Collaborate with human resources to handle new hire onboarding, terminations, salary changes, and compliance documentation. Maintain meticulous records of payroll transactions, benefit deductions, and employee data for audit purposes. Conduct analysis of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors; implement corrective actions promptly. Skills Proficiency in payroll management software; experience with HRIS systems is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of accounting principles including general ledger reconciliation, debits & credits, journal entries, and double-entry bookkeeping. Familiarity with financial concepts related to construction accounting and benefits administration. Ability to adapt to multiple financial tools and software. Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy; proficiency in 10 key typing is preferred. Ability to analyze complex payroll data effectively; strong attention to detail is essential for compliance and accuracy. Knowledge of tax regulations affecting payroll processing. Effective communication skills in collaborating with internal teams and external vendors. Experience processing prevailing wage and certified payroll. Experience supporting workers comp reporting and audits. Strong time management and organizational skills. Understanding of compensation and wage structures, benefits administration, union agreements, and prevailing wage regulations.
Requirements and Education:
4+ years of payroll experience Certified Payroll Professional Certification preferred Bachelor's degree strongly preferred Experience in construction payroll preferred
