Job Description

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join a collaborative finance team in Columbia, South Carolina in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position supports payroll operations for a workforce of approximately 600 employees and is ideal for someone who can manage recurring deadlines with accuracy and professionalism. The role offers standard hours and works closely with the Controller in a remote-friendly environment that values flexibility, teamwork, and respectful communication.
Responsibilities:
  • Administer end-to-end payroll processing across three monthly payroll cycles, including exempt and non-exempt employee groups.
  • Review payroll data for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely completion of each pay run.
  • Manage multi-state payroll activities in compliance with applicable wage, tax, and reporting requirements.
  • Process payroll-related adjustments such as returns, corrections, and follow-up items that arise between scheduled cycles.
  • Maintain payroll records within Paycom and support ongoing use of HR and payroll systems to keep employee information current.
  • Partner with the Controller and internal stakeholders to address payroll questions, research issues, and provide dependable operational support.
  • Monitor payroll deadlines and help sustain consistent service levels in a fully remote team setting.
  • Contribute to payroll continuity by documenting processes and assisting with coverage during absences or shifting business needs.
