Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to oversee and execute day-to-day payroll operations in a fast-paced and compliance-driven environment. This role is heavily focused on payroll processing, payroll workflows, compliance oversight, and issue resolution rather than direct staff management. The Payroll Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert for payroll operations while ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical payroll expertise, a process-oriented mindset, and the ability to manage complex payroll activities with a high level of accuracy and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Oversee and execute end-to-end payroll processing activities, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on schedule Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with institutional, federal, state, and local payroll regulations Administer various compensation structures including PRN pay, supplemental pay, incentives, shift differentials, and related payroll adjustments Monitor and reconcile labor distribution and payroll-related reporting Manage employee timekeeping, leave reporting, FMLA tracking, and leave payout processing Coordinate year-end payroll activities including W-2 preparation, tax reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory filings Review payroll deductions, garnishments, exceptions, and adjustments for accuracy and compliance Evaluate and improve payroll procedures, workflows, internal controls, and process efficiencies Stay current on evolving payroll legislation and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to support payroll audits and reporting requests Research and resolve complex payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries with professionalism and sound judgement Serve as a primary payroll resource for faculty, staff, and internal departments Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll and employee information Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred 4+ years of payroll processing and payroll operations experience Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax compliance Experience processing complex payrolls with multiple compensation structures Familiarity with leave administration including FMLA and leave payout calculations Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Experience with payroll systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality Strong communication and customer service skills

$37.00 - $42.00 per hour
