Payroll Clerk

Description We are looking for a Payroll Clerk to join an accounting team in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position focuses on accurate payroll administration, payroll-related reporting, and support for core accounting activities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing payroll for 100+ employees, works confidently with Excel and QuickBooks, and is eager to expand their knowledge of payroll tax processes.

• This is an in-office role in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Responsibilities:

• Process end-to-end payroll accurately and on schedule for a workforce of approximately 101 to 250 employees, in multiple payrolls.
• Prepare payroll reports and maintain organized records to support internal review and compliance needs.
• Handle payroll adjustments, deductions, and garnishments while ensuring proper documentation and follow-through.
• Assist with quarterly payroll tax reporting, including support for Form 941 and related filings as needed.
• Contribute to general accounting tasks connected to payroll activity, reconciliations, and financial records.
• Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to manage payroll data, verify calculations, and support reporting accuracy.
• Respond to payroll-related questions and resolve discrepancies in a timely and effective manner.
• Learn additional tax and payroll procedures through training while maintaining productivity in a higher-volume setting.

• Experience processing payroll from start to finish with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.
• Background supporting payroll for an employee population in the 101 to 250 range.
• Working knowledge of payroll garnishments and employee deductions.
• Familiarity with payroll reporting and related recordkeeping responsibilities.
• Experience with QuickBooks and solid Microsoft Excel skills.
• Exposure to Form 941 reporting is strongly preferred; knowledge of Form 942 is a plus.
• Ability to learn new payroll and tax procedures quickly and adapt to workload demands.
